These are one cell microorganisms, and there are actually different types living in different conditions! Flagellates and Amoeba are ones that need oxygen and so sometimes in compost teas these are used as a sign of good aerobic conditions. On the other hand ciliates cannot tolerate oxygen.
They all like to feed on bacteria.
